Joyce Speed
Cognitive Behavioural Therapist
I am an experienced, fully accredited and qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, with the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), the regulatory body for CBT in the United Kingdom. I adhere to the BABCP Ethical Framework and work within their Code of Ethics. I have over 25 years’ experience of helping people with psychological and emotional difficulties. I have worked as a CBT therapist, within the NHS, private, voluntary sector and GP surgeries. My work within the NHS involved working within IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) services as a CBT therapist, within Ipswich and London.
I have a wide breath of clinical knowledge and experience, and have worked across a broad spectrum of clinical areas within mental health. I have experience of working with adolescence and adults with common mental health problems, (See Problems CBT can help with). both within a primary and secondary care setting, and knowledge and experience of working with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds. I have also worked as a CBT therapist supporting large corporate organisations with employer assisted return to work programmes. I maintain an active interest in developments in CBT and regularly attend conferences and specialist CBT training events.
I believe that we all need someone to talk to, when we are feeling distressed or struggling with difficulties in life, it helps to have someone to walk that journey with you. My aim therefore is to build a sound therapeutic working relationship with you, and to provide a safe place for you to share and discuss your difficulties, without feeling judged. As well as teach you CBT skills that will help you to make lasting changes in the way that you think, the way you feel and behave, so that you can have and enjoy a better quality of life.
