Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of talking therapy that combines both cognitive and behavioural therapy. It is a relatively shorter -term focused psychotherapy for a wide range of psychological problems. (CBT) helps people understand the links between, thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of talking therapy that combines both cognitive and behavioural therapy. How you think (cognition) influences how you feel (emotion), and what you do (behavior). CBT works on the principle that our behaviour and emotions depend to a large degree on our perception of what we understand is happening. What we think and anticipate can greatly affect our reaction to events and people.
CBT is a structured, present focused, time limited psychotherapy. It is problem focused, goal orientated, and deals with problems in the “here and now”. However, there are times when you may need to talk about your past to help understand how it is affecting you now.
By using CBT to understand and manage your thoughts, you can learn new responses that may lead to a more fulfilling life.
Therapy lasts between 6-12 sessions, dependent upon the nature and severity of your current difficulties, and are of 50 minutes duration.
